Ok. I should probably stop calling Owen a baby by now. For goodness sake, he’s running and climbing and getting big boy scrapes and bruises, he’s trying to talk a mile a minute (without really saying much of anything in complete sentences), he’s trying sit in the bath on his own. This is no baby. But when you’ve spent almost every day but three with this little human, how can they not still be your baby?
Which makes it all the more hard, when Aaron and I took our first extended trip with out him! We were gone for four nights to a conference in Denver. My mom flew to Montreal to take care of him, he had some good grammom and Owen time; so I knew he was in good hands.
But still. My mama heart. That was….until I boarded the plane and read almost an entire book uninterrupted. And those on-board tv screens to watch movies. Did you even know those existed? Cause I sure as goodness forgot, considering my last ten flights with baby in tow. Oh and coffee. They give you free coffee, that you can actually drink and not spill. And music. I used my headphones and listed to music.
Ok. I should stop and say I also teared up every time a mama with a newborn or toddler Owen’s age walked by. So it was not all roses guilt-free time away. But. I think that’s a healthy thing. I think every mama needs little or extended breaks. Truth is, I know Owen was having way more fun and missing me way less than I missed him.
Plus, we got some just us, as a couple, time and that was so refreshing! We found amazing restaurants, stayed at this adorable Air BnB, and got to visit one of my BFFs and meet her boyfriend for the first time. It was perfect. And I’m actually pretty proud of myself for keeping it together and enjoying some time apart. Although, you better believe I couldn’t wait to see Owen when got home and I held him a little tighter when I rocked him to sleep that night.
