Today we have Becca from Bentley James Kids sharing about her first year in business as a mama of two.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I love to sew and could literally spend all my time doing it! I am also starting to gardening. I spend most of my time with my family and volunteering at my church.
What inspired you to start your shop/business?
I was inspired once I had my daughter a year and a half ago. I've never liked all the super girly clothes in most retail shops, so I took it upon myself to make her some funky and trendy clothes myself, which then turned into a business! I also wanted to give back to a pro-life ministry, starting my clothing line gave me a perfect outlet and voice for the work I am so passionate about (you can go read my personal story, here).
What’s your favourite part about running your own business?
It is a challenge and I like challenges. It also gives me a creative outlet. I work in the fashion industry on a corporate level but more in the sourcing/product development field so my business allows me to design.
What’s the hardest part about running your own business?
Keeping up with orders while working an 8-5 job and having two kids has been the hardest part. I also find it tough to keep up with the books and taxes, but that's what my husband is for!
What’s it like being an entrepreneur and a mother?
It's both rewarding and difficult at times. Sometimes I find it hard to figure out when to stop and when to start. I am still figuring out the work/home life balance.
Where do you see your business in five years time?
I see my business really taking off. I would like to be available in stores, so getting into that market in the near future is definitely one of my focuses. I would also love to eventually open up my own store where I carry my line but also sell clothes from other small businesses.
